The 41st Medicinal Chemistry Symposium
Executive Committee Chairman

I am Kenji Yamawaki of Shionogi & Co., Ltd. and I have been appointed as the executive chairman.
The 41st Medicinal Chemistry Symposium will be held at Kyoto Terrsa from November 20th to 22nd, 2024.

The Medicinal Chemistry Symposium has a long history since its first meeting in 1979 and has been a driving force in the development of medicinal chemistry in Japan. During this time, various Japanese research institutes and companies have created many innovative new drugs originating from Japan, and we believe that this Medicinal Chemistry Symposium has contributed in no small part to these results. In Japan, there are only a limited opportunities for researchers in the field of medicinal chemistry to meet together, share research results on drug discovery and related technologies, and discuss closely. This Symposium provides such a venue, contributing to the further improvement of Japan's drug discovery capabilities and the development of related research fields, and is a valuable opportunity for networking.

The key message of the 41st symposium is "The Frontiers of Medicinal Chemistry: Capability, Skills and Creativity." Many studies in medicinal chemistry cannot be completed by using just one technique. It is created by combining many kinds of research, including not only synthetic chemistry but also structure design, analysis, biological activity evaluation, and technology to accelerate the drug discovery. Each technology is extremely valuable, and it goes without saying that the ideas and hard work of the researchers who create them form the foundation of drug discovery, but I believe that the real pleasure of drug discovery research lies in the fusion of these technologies to produce synergy through the creativity of researchers. I hope that this 41st Medicinal Chemistry Symposium will not only introduce cutting-edge research results, but also provide an opportunity for their fusion.

Invited lectures will be given by professors who are active as opinion leaders in various fields and professors who have achieved notable research results. Additionally, in the award lecture, presentations are scheduled to be made by researchers who received the Japan Society of Medicinal Chemistry Award and the 40th Medicinal Chemistry Symposium Excellence Award.
For general lectures and poster presentations, researchers conducting the latest research from companies and universities will be invited to present their results. Continuing from last year, Elsevier will offer "BMC/BMCL Award" through support for Bioorganic Medicinal Chemistry (BMC) and Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters (BMCL) in addition to the Medicinal Chemistry Society MCS Excellence Award selected from general lectures and the Newcomer Award for undergraduate and graduate students. doing. We are looking forward to receiving many applications.
As in the past, we are also planning corporate exhibitions. We hope that by talking directly with company representatives about the equipment and services that are essential for advancing daily research, you will be able to deepen your understanding of the products and services, then use this to accelerate and improve the quality of your daily research.
We will do our best to provide content that meets your expectations, and look forward to your participation.
